Data Checker on 50 Accounts v30

SOLVED

Hi all

As per the title, after upgrading the data on the file server it went to do the data check and I got a variety of the below situiations (see pics). This happened on 4 different data sets. I have tried checking the data from muliple PCs including the server, with both 64 and 32 bit versions. Eventually I just have to end task on Sage.

Anyone else seen/fixed this?

(No progress bar/lines):

(The infamous processing, please wait - this was actually on the server where the data is held):

(And my personal fave, which just sat there):

    Hi Tim,

    Thanks for using Community Hub.

The first thing to rule out is corruption in the data sets pre upgrade, does the check data routine complete successfully before the data sets are upgraded?

There could also be an issue with the folder C:\Windows\Temp which is used to hold a snapshot of the data for checking. To check if this is the source of the problem can you make sure the following Check box is cleared before running the process again: Settings > Company Preferences > Parameters > Enable check data and backup with users logged in.

The data sets were backed up and checked before we did the upgrade.

I know no-one else was logged in while the initial checks were done, their PCs were off.

I'll have a look in the temp folders on the server, not sure if they are always held there or on the machine doing the checks - as I said, the issue occurs on all PCs and the server.

Thanks Tim, I'd definitely recommend running the upgrade again, with that setting switched off, so we can see if the temp folders could be the source of the issue.

Ah, interesting, there are empty accdata folders in the windows/temp folder up until I did the upgrade, then they stop.

Issue with re-running the upgrade is there has been data entered since, although not a huge amount. I might pull the pre-update data across to my PC and do a local upgrade, see if I get the same issue.

    SUGGESTED

You’re going to end up creating extra work by potentially overlooking the troubleshooting suggested by Andy.

By unchecking the option in company preferences labeled 'enable backup and check data with other users logged in' the application will conduct backups locally instead of utilising the external data service/temp folder and the standalone backup.exe & checkdata.exe that we employ for concurrent backup/check data processes. This approach allows you to pinpoint the source of the issue.

If you disable that setting and attempt the process again, the backup and check data operations should run. Please share the results once you have done this, we can then advise next steps.

Aha, a misunderstanding there, the term 'running the process again' I was assuming you meant the upgrade. Unticking that box just actually resolves the issue and File Maintenence now runs OK.

Hi. Is unchecking this box permanent? Can we switch it back on after the data check runs successfully? We have scheduled backups going 3 times a day. Two of these happen while people are logged in. I would be loathe to upgrade if I cannot backup while users are logged in

Hi Ken, switching that option off stops the software from creating a snapshot of the data to run the check on while others are working. If the option is disabled then you won't be able to run a data check while others are working.

In this case I've recommended it to ascertain if the issue Tim has experienced is related to the Windows Temp folder, and in this case it seems to be. I wouldn't recommend disabling the option for any reason other than investigating if there was a problem with the Temp folder. In v30 you can still check the data while others are logged in.
