Problem with changing program date after archiving old period

SUGGESTED

We've just archived an accounting period and are starting into a new one. When I set the program date to the start of the financial year, its posting transactions on the date entered, not the date from the start of the year. This is throwing out all my transactions and presumably opening balances. I haven't even tried entering bank balances yet

Same when I try to change the program date for posting invoices, it just posts on the same day I'm doing the transaction.

There is also a problem in that although statements are picking up the transactions within a defined period, say 1 month, the date displayed on the statement is todays date, not 1 week ago or whenever I have set the statement period up to.

Any idea whats the best course of action here?

    Hi Kevin,

    Thanks for using Community Hub.

Just to check, when you refer to changing the date are you changing the default date in Settings > Change Program Date?  The date that appears when you enter a transaction is the program date.

There's a bit more about this here >

    Hi Andy,

Thanks for taking the time to answer

Yes I know how to change the program date and what its function is. The problem is that its NOT doing that? There are a few more date issues being thrown up as well regarding statements. More that I haven't discovered almost certainly. For certain functions where it should be grabbing the nominated date - e.g end of month statement or opening balances its taking todays instead

    Thanks for coming back Kevin.

As well as archiving the data, have you closed the accounting period by running a year end? You can read more about running a year end here >

This reads as if you're changing the program date rather than running the year end, which could be the missing step.

Alternatively, if you have run the year end, then you shouldn't need to do anything in Settings > Change program date or Settings  > Financial year.

    Cheers Andy

Maybe thats it. Can I do that having archived the previous financial year?

Also will it demand that I have all my ducks in a row trial balance etc before allowing me to close off?

They're absolutely not which is why we're basically quarantining the old period and starting afresh from our accountants opening balances.
