Are you joining from the Audit_Split table to the Nominal Table ? If so that's why it takes so long - for every record in the Audit_Split it goes and gets the Nominal record to find the name.

It would be better to swap the join around and go from Nominal to Audit_Split.

The Sage support website should have articles on Report Writer Joins - have a search.

Thanks for your reply, the report that I have modified to show the Nominal Name is the Nominal activity report.

To produce this report, I have joined the Audit Split table to the Audit Journal report (Parent Table) on Split number – Conditional Join type Parent outer ; Join Type : inner

Then I joined the Audit Split table (Parent Table ) to Nominal Ledger Table ; Join fields Nominal code from the Audit Split Table to Account Ref in the Nominal Ledger table. Join conditional Type Inner ; Join Type inner.

I did read the articles on Join types in the Sage Support Site but still not clear how the conditional join and the join works  

Appreciate some advice to improve the speed of processing the report

Looking at the picture I dont think you need the second join to the Nominal Ledger because it's already joined to the Audit Journal

I wanted to show the nominal code a transaction is posted to on the Nominal Activity and the nominal Name ; I believe that I need to join a second nominal code table ; else it will give the nominal name of the nominal code for which the activity report was run, i may be wrong ; see a sample report. am I using the correct join types. The details in the coloumn shaded in blue is what I have achieved, it's the speed of process that is of a concern

The performance issue is because you are performing a lookup on an non-indexed field in a potentially quite large table. However, if I understand correctly what you are trying to achieve the join to AUDIT_SPLIT is unnecessary in any event. All you need to do is add the NOMINAL_LEDGER table a second time but to join this to AUDIT_JOURNAL ON AUDIT_JOURNAL.BANK_CODE to NOMINAL_LEDGER1.ACCOUNT_REF (this assumed the 2nd instance of the nominal ledger table is given the alias NOMINAL_LEDGER1, so adjust as necessary)
