VAT Return date on Sage is different from that expected from HMRC?

Ok after waiting on the phone for ever and a day to HMRC as normal the person couldnt help so popped me on hold and 5 mins later cut me off! sighhh please help lol... so I am filing a vat return for the first time for a client and the dates for the vat that sage is bringing up is completely different for the vat return period that HMRC are expecting, if I file from the Sage date, HMRC will still have 3 vat returns outstanding, I said to HMRC you must have some flat set incorrectly on the system for my client, the date needs adjusting, they obviously cope with the question being Friday and all that!  Any ideas Pleasseeeee?

    Hi Charni,

    Thanks for using Sage City.

Sorry to meet your question with more questions but there are a few things to clarify before we can proceed.

Which dates are you offered when trying to submit the return through Sage 50 Accounts?

What dates have you reconciled previous returns up to?

Are you submitting directly from Sage Accounts or are you using the MTD adaptor?

    Regards,

    Hi Andy,

Thanks for replying, its a right mish mash to put it short, my client filed ones himself through another software, I have pieced together all the dates that need filing or amending, first one dating back to the 01/03/2019 then right up to date,

The client filed using previous software online: (Software was not Sage)

    01/03/19 to 31/08/20

Then directly through HMRC account online:

    01/06/21 to 30/11/21

Then I was expecting to link MTD from Sage software to HMRC to see a date to file from the 01/12/21 but its bringing up from the 01/09/22 instead?

    Any ideas?? :)

Those older periods will be closed and not available through MTD. I don't want to pass you back to HMRC but I think you'll need to speak to them about the historical periods then start using MTD for the latest open period onwards.
