New business, first vat filing and period is not avaibale on Sage

SOLVED

Hello,

I have just added a new company to my Sage account. They were registered in July 2023 and I am trying to file a nil value VAT return for the period July to Sept 2023, as their first trading is only in October. When I go to submit the return and I log in to HMRC, it is not showing the July to Sept 2023 period, althugh the period has not yet expired. It only shows the two subsequent periods, Oct to Dec 2023 and Jan to March 2024.

Is this an issue with HMRC or with Sage? I am on Sage version 29.0.252.0 and Cash Accounting.

Thank you for any help provided.

Gareth.

    Hi Gareth,

    Thanks for using Community Hub.

If the obligation period is not available (July-Sept in this case) then one of two things have occurred. Either that period has been selected in error for a previous submission or HMRC have not assigned that period to the company.

I suspect the latter is more likely, but in either event the solution is to check with HMRC.

Thanks for getting back to me, Andy and for your suggestion. I also think the latter is the case as the business has only been recently registered (18 July 2023) so I guess it's on to the phone to HMRC with another long wait. Appreciate your advice.
