VAT - HMRC Portal

Hi

I have just tried to speak with HMRC as a payment for the VAT remains unallocated.  Unable to speak directly so ended up on live chat.   The unallocated payment apparently is because we paid an amount on account.   The agent tells me that the Govt Gateway account for VAT is incorrect and that I should use the MTD software?

I tried telling him that the interest/penalty showing on HMRC portal is not visible via MTD but he insisted that it should be and if not then I should change software?  Does anyone have a clue as to what he is talking about?

So currently on our Govt Gateway account it looks as though we owe £xx but in the payment history we have unallocated £xx which has not been deducted from the balance.

Seriously need some advice - is the agent correct and am I missing something?

    Hi Mary,

    Thanks for using Community Hub. 

    It sounds like you're talking about activity on your Government Gateway/MTD account, not what is stored in Sage 50 Accounts. In that case, I'm afraid we wouldn't be able to advise you on that as your Sage program handles the submission of data to HMRC based on the transactions you've posted to 50 Accounts. The transmission is one-way and HMRC wouldn't send information about the balance on your Government Gateway/MTD account back to us. 

    The only advice I can offer would be to contact HMRC again and explain the situation again.
