Sage 50 upgrade to v30 with remote access - do i need data service manager?

SUGGESTED

We have Sage 50 set up on a laptop with that as the 'main site' and have other users accessing it on their laptops using remote data services. It's not a setup I really like but as a very small entity without a server or LAN it's what we have. I've just updated the 'main site' laptop to version 30 and I now have Sage Data Service Manager on the laptop. I'm confused because I don't remember seeing it before. I only saw it today because after I'd done the update it said the data service was disconnected so I opened it and entered the name of the laptop as the server. I'm worried that this isn't right and that we don't actually need it becuase we're using remote data services. I've tried searching for help but I can't find anything useful. I'm only helping occasionally and have a job elsewhere which means I can't ring the support line or use the chat between 9 and 5. Doesn't seem to be an option to e-mail Sage for support. Anyone know whether I need the Sage Data Service Manager?

The data service manager was introduced in version 21 and has been in each version since.

Each computer with Sage 50 Accounts installed has a copy of the data service manager. It’s not related to remote data access, it is a tool to let you manage the sage data service. Its default state will always show as ‘disconnected’.

if you have installed version 30 on each machine, all that is left to do is log in to each company you have and follow the on-screen instructions to convert data.

This can be done on any machine as we removed the concept of a main site in version 27.
