The native cloud options are Sage Business Cloud Accounting and Sage Intacct.

Bring Sage 50 Desktop Online

I feel that Sage desktop was one of the most comprehensive bookkeeping softwares on the market with the ability to record complex business transactions and enter multiple transactions at any given time.

Unfortunately, I feel that in the process of changing to cloud software Sage has removed a large amount of the functionality that was available to people on the desktop versions.

The desktop versions of Sage are quickly being made obsolete as a result of people finding it too difficult to deal with their accountant in real time on their records as they either need to send a backup to their accountant and not process anything or they need to use accountant link (which tends to cause more trouble than it's worth).

I would really like Sage to build an online version of Sage 50 desktop which has all the drill and reporting functionalities of Sage V26.  This will allow people who are on Sage desktop to move online without loosing functionality and allow accountants quick and direct access into their client's records.

  • Quite a few providers offer hosted Sage 50 - so you can have the traditional desktop software experience but have it hosted in the cloud. We also do this with our own Windows server, allowing our users to log in and run Sage 50 remotely using the Remote Desktop client and Terminal Services/Remote access enabled on the server. Obviously this requires a bit of setup, and might require some TS Client Access Licences, but it is massively better than using the slow and unreliable Sage Drive. And you keep complete control of your data, you are NOT uploading a copy on to Sage's cloud servers, so their are security and data protection advantages too. But mainly, Sage Drive is just too slow and unreliable.

  • With an improved set up on Sage Drive I would stay with Sage 50. The online Sage is pants and too slow over a browser I know they are adding new functionality all the time but why develop something totally new when you have a tried and tested product that just needs a bit of tweaking. Sage 50 cloud with Sage Drive would be much better. The speed and reliability of working on your local machine with cloud access when and if needed.Heart eyes

  • Agree totally also. I've worked with numerous accounts packages. If I had the power I would develop Sage 50 drive and let the other cloud version rot. It's hands down the best product out there

  • A thousand times YES! It would be a great opportunity to move to a decent DBMS and imprtove performance as well as stop all the tedious mucking about with Sage Drive. It's 2020, I shouldn't have to leave a PC turned on in the Office while I'm working from home and I certainly shouldn't have to connect to it by Teamviewer to download transactions via bank feeds.  I shouldn't have had to creat a hack via OneDrive and symbolic links to have Supplier and Customer attachments available on all sites. Whatever happens woith thiis pandemic, remote woprking is here to stay.

Sage needs to make that easy or it will lose out to its competitors who are already further down the line. We certainly are only keeping Sage because of teh hassle of moving to something more modern. Not so many years ago, I would always recommend Sage to people looking for an accounting system, now I can only recommend they stay away from Sage 50
