Welcome to the 2017/2018 tax year

By now a lot of you will already have run your year end. If you haven't, don't forget HMRC need to receive your final submission by 19 April and you have until 31 May to provide P60s to everyone still working for your company on 5 April.

New legislation

There are two key changes to legislation for the 2017/2018 tax year.

Apprenticeship Levy

HMRC are changing the way in which apprenticeships are funded.

If your annual pay bill is more than £3 million, you have to pay into the apprenticeship levy. The amount you need to pay is 0.5% of your annual pay bill and you also have an allowance of £15,000 that you can offset against this. Sage 50 Payroll automatically calculates this for you. Read more >

The Scottish rate of income tax

This year, any employees who live in Scotland are subject to new tax bandwidths and rates. To help identify them, their tax codes will be prefixed by S, for example, S1150L. You should only change the tax code to include the S when notified by HMRC. Read more >
