Copy Payslips

Hello.

What is the obligation of an employer when it comes to providing copies of payslips? I know that employers legally have to provide them initially but what if an employee subsequently asks for copies?

Although we try to be helpful, it is becoming a very time-consuming task to arrange copies when it would be so easily solved by employees simply filing them away at home (especially those who have it emailed to them!). Can we refuse if we don't have time? What do you do?

Thanks for your advice!

Joe

  • Hello Joe,

As for the providing copies of payslips, my understanding is it is at the discretion of the employer. There is little on the .GOV website, though ACAS may be able to assist you.

However, if you do find payslips a chore to produce, have you considered taking up the Sage Online Payslips option? The payslips would be stored online and viewable/printable from almost any device and that includes historical ones should you wish.

From as little as £3 per month (Feb 2017) you can save on the cost of paper, ink, envelopes and postage.

    Perhaps read more here: shop.sage.co.uk/onlinepayslips.aspx
