(IT Administrators) Best supported infrastructure for a one site, multi user company

Hi all,

I would like to know what Sage's preferred (and supported) infrastructure is for a windows network.

Background:
We have most of our business applications virtualised in a Citrix environment, and all of them work seamlessly, however Sage 50 Payroll has been throwing out random errors recently and each time we mention we have a Citrix environment Sage will instantly use that as a bit of a scape goat.

The reason we would prefer to use Citrix is for its integration with our other applications, its simple user interface, and that users can access it from anywhere over the internet. If this cannot be achieved via Citrix, we would like to know the next best setup.

I presume it will be local installs of 50 Payroll onto each workstation, and then change all the .ini files to point to a central location for paydata and reports etc. Then allow VPN connections for anyone who requires to work from home?

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi John.

We recommend installing the software locally on all PCs and then pointing the installations to the data that's held on the server.

After installing the software, when you ope the software for the first time - you can select to connect to the existing data.

If one of the PCs is already connecting to the data across the network, you can copy the Payroll.USR and Pay.USR files from that PC onto the rest. Best practice would be to use the Connect to existing data option on the set up window.

We also don't support the software on a terminal server.

    Thanks,
