Changing SSP qualifying days.

SUGGESTED

Hi, I have inherited a payroll where the qualifying days for SSP have been set to NQQQQQN, however we operatate 7 days a week. Is there a way that we can do a universal change everyone to QQQQQQQ and set it up as the default for new hires?

Any help would be great, I dont fancy manually updating 800 records.

Are you sure the qualifying days would be QQQQQQQ?

That would imply none of your 800 workers gets at least a day off every week - they are working 365 days a year!  Even when I worked at a bus company which operated 24hr (we ran night bus routes) 364 days a year (no services ran Christmas Day) on shift work, I got 2 days off every 7.

You will need to set up a shift pattern of days, eg my shift pattern over a 4 week period used to be (our week ran Saturday to Friday):

    1. NNQQQQQ
    2. QQNNQQQ
    3. QQQQNNN
    4. NQQQQQQ

At which point it repeats.  This pattern was used by the others on the rota, but possibly starting at a different line.  When I was on line 1, another employee would be on line 3.

You will need to workout your shift patterns, the starting date of each pattern, and workout to which pattern each employee.

Once you've done that you can use:

    1. Select the relevant employees for a given shift pattern;
    2. use {menu}Tasks>Global Changes>Holiday / SSP Qualifying Day Patterns>Assign Working Day Patterns to Employee(s)...
    3. Enter the relevant pattern information
    4. Update the employees
    5. Repeat 1-4 for each shift pattern with start date you've identified.

In my example above I would have that pattern starting on 23/10/2022 and the other employee would have the same patterns but with a start date of 09/10/2022, so that on the week starting 30/10/2022 I would be on line 2 (QQNNQQQ) and the other employee would be on line 4 (NQQQQQQ).

Thank you for your reply and appreciate the questions. I may have completely missed the point here .

We do operate 365, some sites 24hrs, however colleagues are not contracted to specific days and rarely have a pattern. The SSP regs tell us SSP is paid when the employee is sick for at least 4 days in a row (including non-working days).however if you have NN in Sage does not include them in the calculation so at the moment out pattern looks like this

    SMTWTFS

    XQQQQQX - Sunday to Saturday.

Currently someone who works 16 houts a week across 2 days (not specified) and had two weeks off starting on a Wednesday might look something like t his when imput in Sage

    X X X = = P P p p p - - p p p

So this means that there are 5 waiting days until they get paid or am i over thinking this?

    Hi,

    Thanks for using Sage City.

With your current configuration, a day that could be a working day is classed as a non-working day. Switching to QQQQQQQ is fine as long as it matches the company’s working pattern.

If Saturday and Sunday are classed as non-working days (NQQQQQN) then this could impact how soon an employee could receive SSP, ie if the employee was sick from Saturday they would not start accumulating SSP until the Monday.

I hope this clarifies the situation. If this has helped, please click More > Verify Answer.
