Payroll 50 v30 Update now unable to log in

SUGGESTED

Hi,

I've recently installed v30 update in my Remote Desktop environment and am now no longer able to access.

I'm receiving the following error:

"ODBC Microsoft Access Driver Login Failed"

"Not a valid account name or password"

I've checked the ODBC drivers and they all look fine

Anyone else had this since the update or experienced it before?

Thanks

Jason

    Hi

Jumping in on this thread as I'm having a similar issue - We can open Sage Payroll v30, and open client files, but when we go to Tools > check for legislation updates, find the updates, and install them, the progress bar gets to three pips and then the attached error message comes up. At that point Sage Payroll completely freezes and can only be closed by ending the process from Task Manager.

I've tried uninstalling all versions of Sage Payroll, scrubbing the C:\ProgramData\Sage\Payroll and C:\Program Files (x86)\Sage Payroll folders, and reinstalling the product, checking NTFS permissions on the relevant folders, and even recreated the Payroll32 ODBC driver as specified in these pages - ODBC Microsoft Access Driver Login Failed > and Set up the Payroll32 ODBC driver > - And I'm still getting this error and lockup. Running as administrator doesn't help either.

We are running Windows Server 2016, I understand that Sage Payroll is untested / unsupported on Windows Server and Terminal / Remote Desktop environments, but this is also happening on the local installs of my end user's endpoints, all laptops running Windows 11. It also seems to be very intermittent, like a user will be able to update legislation on some clients but not others, and there seems to be no consistency as to why this is the case.

My guess is that the credentials used to access the ODBC driver are missing or incorrect in the upgrade process perhaps? Looking around online this seems to be something required to access the ODBC driver, and it isn't something Sage will give out, going off a few posts I found on some very old forums :D If that's the case, it looks like something fundamental in this legislation update process is missing or incorrect, and will need to be patched, but that's all just me thinking out loud.

Either way, I'm having a similar issue, and looking for a fix or patch as well Slight smile

    Thanks,

    Steve

There seems to be alot of issues with this update!

    Hi

It's Sunday and I am going away next week hence I started my payroll early. Only to find after the update for the NI changes, I can no longer see the payroll task icons, they have disappeared as has the select view at the top right-hand of the screen.

I am now concerned that It's going to be chaos on Monday 18th and I will not get my payroll for the companies done before I am off on annual leave.

    Hitesh.

    Hi Hitesh,

You can change the view using Payroll > View > Change View. You can read more about this here: Home page in Sage 50 Payroll >

I've just had someone here who uses payroll to ask about that - I'm about to do our payroll run for March, so will be forced to downgrade to the latest version.  I haven't seen the new homepage yet, but I doubt that I will want to be using whatever is presented there.

Perhaps it is something that Sage wants to highlight, but forcing it at this stage whilst people are preparing for a new Tax Year is, in my option (and it seems others) an annoying waste of our time.  Personally, I would have felt it could be something that was added with the option to see it and default to it if wanted; and then after the new tax year had started, say in the second tax month (when payroll people are over the stress of a new tax year), change to being the default but with a large message on how to reset back to other view if preferred, and keeping the users' preferred view thereafter.

A lot of people do not like change for change sake - a sure fire way to lose friends and dissuade people [from using your product (particularly if others are available)]

    Hi Robert,

Thanks for your feedback, which I've referred on to the product team for Sage 50 Payroll.

I realise your point is related to the timing of the change, but just to clarify, you can switch the initial default view quite quickly using the following steps:

    1. In the bottom left of your software, click Desktop.
    2. In the Tasks pane, click Options, then click the Environment tab.
    3. Under the Desktop heading, use the Initial View drop-down and select your preference.
    4. Click OK.

Thanks again for taking the time to comment.
