Migration of server data

SOLVED

Hello,

I work in IT and have been asked to complete a migration of Sage data from a 2003 server running Micropay Professional Server v12.1. This will be moved to a Windows 2016 server. I found this article on migrating payroll data (https://ask.sage.co.uk/scripts/ask.cfg/php.exe/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=33525), however it does not talk about installing a server instance of the software. Also the clients that are connecting to the share using a mapped drive are running V22.3, but there shortcuts for Sage Payroll.exe are pointing to the server. Therefore I am presuming that this server also has an instance of the client running on it.

My question is how do I migrate this over?

Do I simply setup a new network share and map the clients drive to it? Will I have to update the Sage Payroll.exe location to their local machine? Can this be any file share and does it need an instance of the server software running?

Or do I have to install the Sage client and server software on a windows machine, copy the data over and overwrite files. Then map the network drive to the new location and update the shortcuts for the users as well as the dataloc.ini?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Chris

    Hi Chris,

If the shortcut on the client machine is pointing to the server, this would suggest the program has been installed on the server and each machine is pointing to the same installation. This is not a recommended setup, as we would suggest having the program installed on each client and only having the data on the server.  You'll then be able to follow the steps in the guide you were looking at, to ensure the clients are pointing to the correct set of data.

You'll need to ensure you have a multi user licence to network in this way, if you're not sure then please get in touch with us and we can check your licence for you.

    I hope this helps.
