Sage CRM 2023 R2: Planning your upgrade & changes in supported software

2 minute read time.

Sage CRM 2023 R2 will be released to all regions today, September 29, 2023. Each Sage OpCo team will decide when to release the new version in their country, but you can start planning for your upgrade now.

To upgrade to Sage CRM 2023 R2, you can use the installation package. You can upgrade from versions 2023 R1, 2022 R2, 2022 R1, 2021 R2, and 2021 R1. Only upgrade directly from the versions on this list. Other upgrade paths have not been tested and are not supported.

If you're using an older version of Sage CRM, you'll need to upgrade to one of the supported versions before you can upgrade to Sage CRM 2023 R2. You can find the support cycle for each version on the Sage CRM website.

Support for Sage CRM 2020 R1 and R2 is ending on September 30, 2023. Please note that there may be local agreements in place that modify this for certain instances where Sage CRM is integrated with particular accounting solutions.  See:  https://help.sagecrm.com/support/support-lifecycle/

If you're using an older version of Sage CRM, we strongly recommend that you upgrade to a supported version. You can learn more about the benefits of upgrading on the Sage City website

If you're using Sage CRM with a Sage accounting solution, please refer to the integration guides to check the requirements for upgrading. If you're using a third-party integration, please refer to the documentation provided by the ISV.

Long-tail upgrade paths may seem daunting, but they're not as bad as they look. We'll help you every step of the way.

Upgrading to Sage CRM 2023 R2 from an older version, such as Sage CRM 7.1, will give customers access to new features and improve their overall experience and system security. It is a worthwhile investment, and the upgrade process is not as difficult as it may seem.

To upgrade from Sage CRM 7.1, customers must first upgrade to 7.2 via 7.1 SP1 or SP2. Once on 7.2, they can upgrade to 7.3 SP3 without applying any patches. From there, they can upgrade to Sage CRM 2018 R2, then to 2021 R1, and finally to Sage CRM 2023 R2.

Changes to Supported Software

You will need to consider the changes in supported software. There were a limited number of significant changes, especially around the Java Run Time installed for Sage CRM 2023 R2. Please note Sage can only confirm support for Sage CRM in environments that are included in our QA process.

As new versions of different software are included in our QA process we need to stop testing older versions. This means that our list of supported environments inevitably changes over time.

This affects not just the servers but also the devices that are used to access integrated Sage CRM.

Sage CRM 2023 R2 uses a new Java Runtime Environment (JRE) by default: 32-bit Eclipse Temurin JRE 8. This is installed automatically when you install or upgrade to Sage CRM 2023 R2.

Sage CRM requires one of the following Java Runtime Environments:

  • Eclipse Temurin Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 8, 32-bit version.
  • Oracle Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 8, 32-bit version.

If you need to switch back to using Oracle JRE 8, there are instructions on how to do this on Sage City.

For more information about the software that Sage CRM 2023 R2 can work with and integrate with, see the 2023 R2 Hardware and Software Requirements on the Sage CRM Help Center.
