Sage CRM 2024 R1: Planning your upgrade & changes in supported software

2 minute read time.

Sage released Sage CRM 2024 R1 to all regions on Thursday, 11th April 2024. Each Sage OpCo team will decide when to release the new version in their country, but you can start planning for your upgrade now.

To upgrade to Sage CRM 2024 R1, you can use the installation package. You can upgrade from versions 2023 R2, 2023 R1, 2022 R2, 2022 R1, 2021 R2, and 2021 R1. Only upgrade directly from the versions on this list. Other upgrade paths have not been tested and are not supported.

Upgrading to Sage CRM 2024 R1 from older Sage CRM versions

If your Sage CRM is older, update it to a supported version before moving to 2024 R1. Check the Sage CRM website for version support lifecycles.

Be aware that support for Sage CRM 2021 R1 and R2 ends on September 30th, 2024. Exceptions may apply for integrations with specific Sage accounting solutions. See Sage CRM Support Lifecycle: https://help.sagecrm.com/support/support-lifecycle/ for details.

Upgrading to a supported version is highly recommended, especially for older Sage CRM users. Learn more about the benefits on the Sage City website.

If you use Sage CRM with a Sage accounting solution, consult the integration guides for upgrade requirements. For third-party integrations, refer to the documentation provided by the vendor.

Upgrading from a very old version might seem complex, but it's manageable. We'll provide support throughout the process.

Upgrading from an older version, like Sage CRM 7.1, offers several advantages. You'll gain access to new features, a smoother user experience, and improved system security. It's a smart investment, and the upgrade process is easier than you might think.

However, there are some steps involved if you're currently on version 7.1. First, upgrade to 7.2 using either SP1 or SP2. Then, you can move directly to 7.3 SP3 without additional patches. From there, you'll need to upgrade in stages: first to Sage CRM 2018 R2, then to 2021 R1, and finally to 2024 R1.

Changes in Supported Software

There are a few things to keep in mind regarding compatible software. The biggest change for Sage CRM 2024 R1 is the switch to a 64-bit Java Runtime environment. Importantly, Sage can only guarantee support for configurations that have gone through their quality assurance (QA) process.

As new software versions are tested and approved, older ones eventually become unsupported. This means the list of compatible environments changes over time. This applies not only to servers but also to devices used to access Sage CRM integrations.

Sage CRM 2024 R1 uses a 64-bit Java Runtime Environment (JRE). This is installed automatically when you install or upgrade to Sage CRM 2024 R1. This will provide increased performance and scalability and a foundation for future advancements.
