TLS 1.2 support for CRM/SQL connectivity

Due to PCI requirements, client disabled TLS 1.0 on their 2012 R2 application server and enabled TLS 1.2. Now their Sage CRM 2017 R1 cannot connect to their SQL Server 2012 database. They are able to manually create an ODBC connection from that application server to SQL and that works. Any insight?
