Integrating Quotes into the Workflow process.

I am looking to integrate the creation of new quotes from the opportunity workflow (or other workflow). Also in this, I would like to be able to directly send an e-mail that includes the quote information, pricing, items, etc. I am currently setting up an e-mail template to include these items, but we wish to do this without the Mail Merge step in between.

The basic idea is that a salesman receives a phone call. They open up the company within CRM, and create a new opportunity. From here, the workflow buttons activate so that a new quote can be created. After the new quote is saved, the salesperson is returned to the opportunity summary page, and a new option of `Send quote e-mail` appears. In clicking on this, it will bring up the e-mail template, ready to send with the correct information merged into it. This way, the process of quote creation and quote submission are merged into a 3-step process rather than the current one of merging, saving the document, then finding the document, attaching it to the e-mail, and writing out the e-mail to the customer. I hope this is a feasible option, as it will likely increase the speed in which our sales people enter quotes, thereby increasing productivity.

If there are any other ideas about a process similar to this, I am very open to trying anything.
