In reference to your post, what you are trying to do is nested mail merge on custom entity. As far as my knowledge, there is no standard way for nested mail merge on custom entity. We were also trying our hands on the same. After having lots of brainstorming efforts we successfully implemented the said functionality by a custom routine.

Not the answer I was hoping for as I have not gone down the .net route yet

Logically it should be possible to use a nested region on a custom entity for multiple custom entities - as a similar situation already exists for Orders and Quotes
Unless the functionality for mail merge on Orders and Quotes is hard coded to the eware.dll and cannot be called elsewhere.

Does anyone know how the vMailMergeChildrenQuotes and vMailMergeChildrenOrders have an effect for the mail merge?
I'm guessing in the scenario of a Quote the child view returns the Quoteitems?
