Mass email function

When trying to mass email a group created from our "leads" by going to the group we've created and selecting "New Email" we are not given the correct fields from the "Choose Field to insert into the E-Mail" drop down menu. The only options we are given are for "User".

We have tried creating several different groups for different sources and still only get the same options. We need "Lead", "person", "Company" etc fields to show when want to mass email contacts from those sources.

Our independent Sage supplier/technicians have said the following in response to the above issue;

"System by design does not allow you to add any other fields than the ones visible from in the group context of creating an email.

To enter the lead field types you either have to enter them manually in the email or create a template."

Has any one else had this problem? Is it fixable or is there an easier work around besides creating a template?
