Sage CRM and MS Exchange

Hi,

For a small installation of 10 CRM users would it be ok to install the MS Exchange server on the same hardware? Or is it always best to have a separate server?

Any recommendations?

    Hi,

It would generally be better to have a separate server. We do have customers who have Exchange on the CRM server; this is generally the case for customers using SBS / Windows Server Essentials. If they do decide to have Exchange on the same server, there may be some additional configuration involved. See here for details:

The main issue I'd have with trying to run Exchange on the same server as CRM has to do with performance and reliability. Exchange is generally one of the most critical services running in an organisation; you generally wouldn't want anything else running on the same machine in case it impacted the performance or reliability of the Exchange server (I'm not saying that a CRM install necessarily would; I'm just speaking in general terms). Whether Exchange in turn would have a performance impact on the CRM installation would depend on how many active users there are on Exchange.

Anyway, the short answer is: it would work, people do it, but I'd generally not be in favour.

    All the best,

    Rob

Thanks Rob for the insight. This is what I had in mind too.
