In CRM we have task and appointment option.Once its created in CRM User wants to get a pop up alert on screen.
Example:
A sales person call a customer for followup customer says call after 3 days.So salesman create a task in his/her calendar for 'XX-XX-XXXX' date 'YY:YY' time.System should alert him/her a popup message on that time.
You need to describe a little more about what it is that you need.

Its a task,Screen reminder choose yes and without email notifications.But its not alert me anything?
is it a task or appointment? did you choose on screen reminder yes / no, would you want email notifications on the same? did you choose send email reminder ?
What version of CRM are you running? First of all make sure the CRM Escalation service is running on the server, secondly 7.2 onwards notifications appeared as a subtle number at the top of the screen, rather than a pop up taking over the user's screen. When the user clicks on the number it opens up a section of the screen displaying all the notifications (the user can then snooze / dismiss them)
