This is a bit of a ramble so please read to the bottom.

You can add a button to the communicationsummary screen but you will need to use the client side API rather than using the 'Buttons Group' feature.

The problem with Button Groups...

You can add button groups to the actions

communicationlist

communicationsearch

And it looks like you can add it to "communicationsearch" but the button group is ignored and not added to the communication screen.

The general way in which a button group is added is like this.

Logon as the System Admin

Navigate to

Administration -> Advanced Customisation

Then Button Groups.

Create a new Button Group.

Name: CommSummaryButtons

Select Action: communicationlist

Save and then customize.

This is like changing a Tab group.

Caption: New Company

Action: Other

System Act: newcompany

Bitmap: newcompany.gif (Only needed if using theme other than contemporary).

Add the new 'Button'.

Save the Button Group.

The extra buttons should now display. They will display if the Button Group action was communicationlist or

communicationsearch but will not display when the Button Group action is communicationssummary.

This means that if you do want to add a button to the screen you will need to do this in the client side API.

Oh! I see. I didn't realise you meant the buttons on the webpicker screen.

That is a little more complex because of course these would not just be creating a new Opportunity (which in turn may require a new company or person) but then returning newly saved record into the comm screen.

You can do this (or close to it) by using the Dummy field trick. And then display the readonly Dummy field in the WebPicker screen. You can use the Create Script of the field (in the screen) to change the Caption to display the 'New Opportunity' hyperlink.

Thank you for the information, it looks a little different to what I was hoping. However the functionality is there so that works for me!

I was hoping it would look like the New Company and New Person green buttons on a communication and just sit underneath them. I know this can be done in a custom ASP from this article https://community.sagecrm.com/partner_community/b/hints_tips_and_tricks/archive/2015/09/21/new-company-and-new-person-buttons-in-a-custom-entity-screen.aspx , so I was wondering if there was a way to do it for standard screens.

The way I currently have it shows it as a white box under the save and delete buttons. Functionally it works spot on and it is on the screen I need it to be, so I am happy to go with it as is.

It looks like you can add a New Oppo button to the Communication Summary screen by using the editcommunication action. At least, it worked for me.
