Mass Update with Advanced Search Select fields?

It seems that none of my Advanced Search Select custom fields will show up in the Company Mass Update feature on the advanced finder. Is this a known restriction that isn't documented?

    I've just had a good look but I have actually written very little about Mass Update. I can't find anything within the Help Center specifically about Mass Updates excluding Search Select Advanced fields from change.

    But I can understand why they would be excluded as Search Select Advanced fields 'look up' to parent records. They are used, therefore, for managing the relationships within the system and so that could make Mass Update a terrible risk for referential integrity.

    I have asked my colleagues in UA for clarification.
