Sage CRM 2019 R2 integrated with Sage 300 2019 PU4

I have a client with the configuration above reporting an issue when merging companies in CRM.

When they try to merge a company that does NOT have a Sage 300 customer number into a company that does have a Sage 300 customer number it puts up the error below

"A problem occurred and changes could not be synced to Sage 300.  For help fixing this problem ask your system administrator to review the log file for Sage 300 company ODWDAT"

I looked in what I think is the correct log file and  see the following message repeated multiple times.

"Error Code: Conflict, Error Message: Sage 300 WebApi Tax group cannot be blank."

Is this the cause of the error?  How do I fix this?

    In the Sage help files (https://help.sagecrm.com/on_premise/en/2020R1/Main%20Menu/Content/User/AI_MergingDuplicateCompa.htm) it says "Note: You cannot merge records on integrated systems."

    Merging records is a complex operation. You tend to go to the record you wish to keep, ie, your target record. From there you merge INTO it which pulls data from the source record (the record that will be deleted) into it. I do find it curious, even on a 2020 system why the Merge function is available even though the help file says you cannot merge companies on an integrated system. I would query this with Sage support and ask the question.

    I know you're trying to pull a non-integrated record into an integrated record, but that might also not be allowed. I think the merge is only available for companies on non-integrated systems.
