Sage CRM 2021 R1 Installation Error "Creating the database failed"

Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone would be able to help us please.

We are trying to install CRM 2021 R1 onto a customer's server but when it gets to the installation running the Setup SQL scripts, the installation displays the below error message and nothing appears in the create_database.log. We are using SQL Server 2019 and have also tried this on the Express that comes with the installation and both have the same issue. Logging into SQL with the sa user and manually running the scripts works fine. We've downloaded the Microsoft OLE DB Driver 18 for SQL Server as well which it states in the release notes.

Are you installing directly onto the SQL Server or is that a separate machine?

Hi Guy, thanks for replying. Yes they are on the same server. We have just managed to figure this issue out. SQL server 2019 was installed onto a new server and that version doesn't come with the SQL native client which Sage CRM still uses, so we had to get this installed on the server and it worked after that!

Avrion I am running into the exact same issue. What SQL native client did you install? I tried a few and that didnt seem to work, but odd's are I am not installing the right one.

The one from the SQL Server installation media definitely works. I can't vouch for any others.

Hi Both,

I believe we installed the version of Express that comes with the installation which installed the correct client. We then changed the SQL Server the CRM was pointing to.

That would work although of course you don't need to install the full SQL installation.
