Within Sage CRM the basic assumption is that a Company will have a default Person.  Having said that I can't reproduce your error in my system.  Have you tried this with a fresh install of Sage CRM with demo data?

I'd run a SQL trace against this to see if there was a SQL error. If you have logging turned up to full in CRM, are there any other entries in the other logs around this error?

Although it is assumed that you would have a primary contact, it isn't required. I have had systems before where the person entity isn't used at all. I've had one system a long time ago that had either the person or the company entity disabled.

yes same error appears on a fresh install of CRM with demo data, steps to replicate is go to a company record, and go the primary contact, click change and untick the 'set as default for company' option and save, go back to the company record and click change and the error appears.
the particular customer we are having this issue is due to the Qnect200 synch where they didnt want any of the accounts contacts copying across so we unticked this option on the synch and it only created company records in CRM and they have been going through each company and manually adding the relevant contacts in

This issue has been resolved in the Sage CRM 2023 R1.2 which is available for download.
