Hi do you know if it is possible to connect CRM to txt messaging service for sending out txt updates to customers

It is - you will need access to an SMTP/SMS gateway

There are multiple ways of doing it, such as using SMTP to send SMS messages as Sage CRM suggested.
We have deployed a number of integrations on various messaging platforms (SMS, WhatsApp, WeChat and 3CX/Teams etc.) over the years.
Here is an example of something simple we did 5 or 6 years ago https://vimeo.com/391809153 that could be sent manually or through Sage CRM group lists or even the escalation service.

Have a chat with your Sage Partner, they should be able to help with this.
