In order to achieve the change, did you insert Section Breaks? If so these will break the Mail Merge. These are one of things you can not have within a Word Document for mail Merging, or if you do, all the merge fields must be all within the same Section. 

Thanks Matthew for your response.  I didn't insert Section Breaks.  I ran a mail merge outside of Sage CRM in Word that had margin changes in it just to be sure the issue wasn't with Word and all was good.  I'd be interested to know if someone else tries a simple merge in Sage CRM that has a margin change, if they get the same error I do.  I've tried it on more that 1 template file with the same result.

Cheers for that, very odd, I've never had a problem merging with different margins (I often use 'Narrow' which is 1cm all round the document) Or where I have told it the first page is different. 

I agree, I find it very odd.  I've tried several times and if I put the margin change in, I get the failure message.  If I take it out, the merge runs fine.  What version of CRM are you running?

As a Business Partner, I have done Mail Merges in pretty much all versions over the years and never had the issue you have described. 

Though my current 'play' system is CRM v2023 R2.2

You were so right Matthew and I missed it.  The templates the business sent me did have a section break!  They have found a way to not use a Section break in the templates and will pass those on to me to set up.  Thanks so much for your response, otherwise we would still be scratching our heads.  Have a great weekend.
