I think i recall someone from sage mentioning on the forum that you need to call SelectBatch from the journal/update object for each batch that you want to update before you start the update process.

I don't know how it's implemented, but there is the "All Batches" checkbox for Task Scheduler, so there must be something somewhere...

I haven't poked around enough to know how it is implemented either but i suspect it just loops through available batches and "selects" them prior to starting the update.  Which is how i suspect the user interface does it when you click the "Select All" button prior to clicking proceed.
