Picking Sheet Printing: "Header plus Footer is too large for page" inconsistent error

Hello all,

So one of our employees is having an inconsistent but regular issue when printing and previewing the Picking Sheet in the Sales Order module. It's regular because it's been happening for days, however it's inconsistent because we can't reproduce the criteria that is throwing the error. As you can imagine it's causing them to be incredibly delayed in their duties and productivity.

The error says "unable to print. Header plus Foot is too large for page"

Now while that sounds obvious, I've checked the header/footer on the actual crystal report and it's no different than it has been before the issue.

Any thoughts what could be throwing this error?

  • We see this when the user unknowingly prints a form to a label printer.

Disable the Win 10 feature for automatic default printer, and make sure you are choosing a regular Letter size print object when printing the form.

The user is also experiencing it with "Adobe PDF" and a few other local printers as well. We just tested and confirmed that pointing to the label printer consistently throws the error, however the error is thrown seemingly-randomly using other print/preview devices.

  • Sometimes checking the option for No Printer (optimize for screen display) and Dissociate Formatting Page Size and Printer Paper Size in the crystal design  helps.

We had to do a slightly different approach but looks like we fixed it! The default printer was the label maker, and by switching the default printer to the standard letter printer, rebooting then trying again, everything is working perfectly. Thank you so much for your help!
