Sage 100 vs Sage 50

SUGGESTED

I have recently taken over as Controller for a meal cruising company and am looking for advice on the accounting software they are using.  Currently they have Sage 100, and it is not compatible with the reservation/POS system we use for the boats.  All data is entered manually.  Changing the reservation software is not an option, as there are very few on the market, and even less that are compatible with accounting software.  I have used Sage 50 (and Sage 50 BI reporting) for the past 8 years at another company, and am extemely proficient at it.  We do not track inventory, we do not invoice customers, we use a 3rd party for payroll, and I only currently have 3 users.  Is Sage 100 way more than what we need?  It seems way more high level than what we actually need it for, and the report writing is not user friendly at all.  I am just looking for some informed advice, saving money is not the only driving factor.

You can import / integrate a lot of data using Visual Integrator.  For example, if your reservation/POS system can create an export file that can be imported into Sage 100, you can save time and data entry errors by importing that data into Sage 100.  What data are you trying to integrate from the reservation software to Sage 100, G/L, A/P data?  As far as reporting goes, there are several options.  What types of reports do you need to create?

You might want to have a conversation with your Sage Partner / Reseller.  (Sage can tell you who that is if you don't know).

Converting accounting systems is not a small endeavor and hopefully your Sage Partner will remember the business considerations / requirements / features driving the decision to go with Sage 100 initially.
