You can't change the length of the check number field.  Alternatively, you can use the comment field to show your desired check number.

Enable Wire Transfers in AP Options and use them instead of typing in manual check #'s.  This maintains a separate sequence from your regular checks (starting with W), and you can use a comment or wire transfer # to mark your payments however you wish.

Thanks Kevin!  I've thought about that option as well,  but it still limits my actual check number.  Plus I couldn't tell from looking at the number which vendor I wrote it to.   When I run my check history report, I just like to have it neat and tidy and all in one place.  I'm a little OCD that way :-)

Managing check #'s manually can introduce problems.  Modifying your report to show things the way you want is better than using the system in a way it was not designed to function.  Add a UDF if you really want.

The check # is just the check #.  I've wasted many hours trying to get the system to work in unconventional ways, upon request, when a simple change in approach handles things much more efficiently.  :-)
