Change Valuation Setting in MAS90

We have many items that when originally setup, the "Valuation" category was set to "Standard Cost".  We are attempting to change the valuation of existing items from "Standard Cost" to "FIFO", however we are experiencing a ghosted column that will not permit changing the Valuation category for these existing items.

We do not have any issues setting NEW items to FIFO, but cannot change the existing items.  Would someone be able to suggest a procedure that will help us accomplish this task, please?

Thanks ...

Not sure what you mean by "experiencing a ghosted column that will not permit changing the valuation category".

Depending on the version you are on, there's different ways you have to go about changing an item's valuation method.  Assuming you're on a more current version (4.40 and up) you have to use the valuation change utility on the Inventory/Utilities menu.  This utility involves entering the items you want to change, then printing and updating a register.  This must be done when you have exclusive access to the software.

I would also note that this isn't a change you'll want to make without first consulting with your CPA or tax advisor.  There can be tax implications and IRS reporting requirements involved when changing your valuation method, particularly when changing to or from Standard Cost.

    Hope this helps!

What I mean by ghosting is that the Valuation window is not active and will not permit any changes.  We are running Sage 100 ERP 2013 (V. 5.00.1.0)

You need to change it in Inventory Management - Utilities.  It has to be done without anyone in Sage I believe.

To be able to change the valuation the item has to have no quantity on hand, not be on a purchase order or on a sales order. It can have history. When all of this is met then the Valuation button becomes active and you can change the valuation. If it is on a sales order or puchase order then you have to use the utility.
