Adjusting Credit Memo

SOLVED

We handle all invoicing through the SO module.  I recently generated a credit memo through the RMA module.  However, the credit memo should not have been created.  I know I can do a debit memo to offset but I also know that that invoices and credit memos can be edited.  How is this done?  During my research it seems like it has to go through the A/R module and when I type the CM number I get a message that the CM number already exists and I click ok.  However, it does not prompt with a message asking me if I want to adjust the invoice.

Is there really a way to modify a credit memo (or invoice) that is created through the SO module and not the AR module?

Sue, Follow knowledgebase articles 20918 for AR Adjustment and 18061 for AP Adjustment. I will edit them shortly to include that if you are adjusting an Invoice just put the invoice # (1234567). If you are adjusting a Credit Memo add -CM (1234567-CM). If you are still having issues please call customer support for assistance.

Am I able to modify the costs of different line items on the invoice or can I only modify header information of the invoice? Basically, the line item on the SO was incorrect so I want to modify the invoice to reflect the correct lower price. Will this cause any issues with any type of profit analysis of the part number?

Let me backup just a minute to clarify. When doing an AR or AP adjustment you are using a Miscellaneous code or a GL Account #. You are not allowed to use Inventory items in AR or AP modules. If you need to flow the change to the inventory item you will want to use SO, PO, or an IM Inventory Transaction. Inventory Transactions will not affect the Vendor or Customers. In addition to that, you are not allowed to change the cost on a Sales order invoice or credit memo. The cost is pulled from the inventory item at the time of update so you would need to change the inventory item cost.
