Link UDT to AR_Customer?

I need to add a million fields of crap.... sorry, meaningful information to track against customers, but this is really something that belongs in a CRM. We do not have a CRM and so some genius wants this done in Sage 100. I have reservations about adding many fields to AR_Customer and then opening up the customer master to everyone so that they can enter non accounting related fluff.

My thinking is to add a UDT and some how link to AR_Customer, but I'm not sure on the inner workings of Sage 100 and if that is possible.

What are my options here?

I would suggest adding a new Tab To AR Customer Maintenance, and then on that tab, add all the new UDF fields you are tracking for that customer ID number. A UDT can be used to create a drop down listing of values a user will select when they need to populate a field.

I'm aware I can do that - but that is what I want to avoid. I would have to give non accounting stuff access to AR customer master and risk them changing stuff that they should not.

If you set up your UDT with a proper key field (Division-CustomerNo) there can be a logical link, but you'd have to script the flow of data in and out.
Should you go the route of adding UDF's directly in Customer Maintenance, we've used custom panels (with Customization Groups) to control access to things we don't want users to see / play with. They may technically have access, but if hidden from them (without permission to customize their panels to add things back), it is practically the same thing as no access.

Understood. I'm talking about adding 300 UDFs, then adding panels to accommodate them. And for something I think is going to fizzle. And we're migrating to other software in 6 to 9 months, so I'm not enthused about it :)

It would take you 6 to 9 months to add the 300 UDFs so I would suggest trying to talk them out if it. Maybe create an Access database to act as mini-CRM?

a UDT would not help your situation. A table is mostly used to hold data for drop down UDFs so you would need like 300 tables to go with your 300 UDFs.
