Bar code scanner

We want to add a simple bar code scanner to track inventory more easily.  Not a huge company so really don't need a monthly maintenance type of program.  Any suggestions for purchasing a couple scanners that will interface with Sage 100c??

It will help someone (not me!) if you identify your tasks. Are you at a desk, scanning packed orders off a pick list? Or walking around a warehouse doing a inventory, or on the dock scanning incoming and outgoing inventory.

We will be walking around a warehouse doing inventory and on the dock scanning incoming and outgoing inventory.

If you are on the dock scanning incoming and outgoing you can use a wireless scanner that is connected to your work station if all you want to do is read data. There are two firms that do scanning in Sage 100. Scanco and ScanForce.

Note that a bar code scanner is not some magic wand. It is just a substitute for manual enter. The bar code is just the item number represented in bars. In some cases a wireless scanner will do what you need. In some cases you might need a full third party integration. Note that with modern tablets and a free app such as Teamviewer you can connect to a work station and work in Sage 100.

We use ScanForce www.scanforce.com for warehouse management. It allows you to receive POs, ship SOs and do physical inventory. You need to purchase an intelligent device, i.e. a handheld computer that happens to read bar codes, these cost a fair $ for a descent rugged device. Keep in mind that warehouse types and iPads don't work well together, experience painfully gained.
A simple barcode reader attached to a computer will not fly, unless you load the computer (or a laptop) onto a cart and drag it around the warehouse - which I have seen done. Not really practical.
We also have barcode readers attached to desktops for the times when we want to call a part up on screen, you scan the item's barcode and "boop" it appears on the screen, but that's all it does. So when you say "simple" barcode scanner that is what I think of, a dumb device connected to a computer.

We've been successful with Unitech HT630 bar code readers. They're programmable to meet your specifications, and integrate with Sage's Bar Code module. You'll need DSD's help for item codes > 15 characters. For labels, we use the Crystal Reports in Sage.
