Yes, add the warehouse code  back.  What this is telling you is that one or more of the items are shown to be in a warehouse that is no longer currently on file.  Does it list the warehouse.  Export CI_Item and IM_ItemWarehouse file and see if you can find out which one is not on file.

Conceivably it could be an inactive warehouse too... (with misleading error message).

That was it.  The IM_ItemWarehouse file had a few ghost records that contained item number and nothing else.  I deleted those and restarted the update and it was fine.
