Cleaning Out Non-Existent Inventory in Sales Orders

We are having an issue with non-existent inventory items in our Sales Orders occasionally showing up as a "-1" item, but they do exist. Our software support company looked into this a while back but was not able to resolve the issue.

I am wondering if anyone has run into this and if so, how you were able to remove these items.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Are you referring to qty on hand being -1?

Actually it will show something like 17 items on hand when we only have 16 items onhand and one is being shown as reserved or not available and shows as -1 giving us a false total of 17 items.

Have you tried rebuilding the S/O and P/O sort files and selecting the option to recalculate quantities?

With transactions involving inventory during the data entry process the amount involved is written to the Quantity Committed field in the item costing table. If the transaction is deleted and not posted sometimes the Quantity Committed field is not cleared as expected. The result is what you have. To correct this you do as Brian indicated and rebuild the Inventory Sort files and answer Yes when they ask if you want to clear quantity committed. Note that there cannot be any open data entry batches when you run the utility.
