Recent experiences with Adobe Reader beginning last week.

SUGGESTED

I have a client on SPC that reported on 4/17/24 that they are now being prompted for Adobe credentials.  When I log into their VM and open Adobe, it shows that the version is Adobe Acrobat Pro.  We installed Adobe Reader on their server, so I'm unclear why the version is showing as Pro.  Note:  one of the users in their environment owns a license for Pro and no one has VM access..

I also have the same experience with another SPC client.  Several of them changed their default PDF reader to Edge (including me) and no one else has reported the issue.  At least one of the users also has a license for Pro.

I have also noticed that when logging into at least two SPC VM's, I am presented with a message that Adobe Acrobat has been updated.  One of the clients was mentioned above.

I'm trying to connect the dots on what's going on.

1. Could someone who does not have VM access download software if they don't have VM access?  They are not local admins. Not only the Pro user in my first case above, but also all users are being prompted for login credentials, not only the one who owns the Pro license.

2. Is it a coincidence that the companies affected have Pro users?

3. Is it also a coincidence that this issue began last week?

Thoughts, ideas?

    Hi  ,

Thank you for reaching out with your concerns. Regarding the Adobe Reader prompts for credentials and the version showing as Pro, it seems there might be a discrepancy in the installation or update process within your VM environment.

Firstly, I would recommend checking if Adobe Acrobat Reader is indeed installed correctly on the servers, as sometimes the detection issues can cause a fallback to a Pro trial version, which would prompt for credentials. You can find guidance on installing Acrobat Reader from the Productivity Applications menu by launching Autorun.exe as detailed in our Sage 100 ERP installation documentation here: Install Acrobat Reader Guide.

    To answer your specific questions:

    1. Typically, only those with administrative privileges can install software on VMs, but there can be exceptions based on how your environment is configured.
    2. It could be a coincidence, but it's worth investigating if the Pro version installations are somehow influencing the prompts.
    3. The timing might be related to an update or change in your VM environment, which coincided with the Adobe prompts appearing.

If you suspect that unauthorized updates or installations have occurred, it's also a good idea to review your system's update and installation logs. If the issue persists, please feel free to reach out to our technical support team for further assistance.

If this helps please mark it as verified :)

    Warm Regards,

    Hi Erzsi,

    Thank you for your responses.

    From above:

    2. I uninstalled/reinstalled Reader on the server, and now no one is being prompted.

    3. I'm not the Admin in our organization, but I'm aware that we routinely install the SPC updates as they are released..  This problem began mid-way between updates.

This is still a mystery, but it is an interesting coincidence that there are users with Pro in both user cases.
