Recommended SData Implementation

The only useful documentation/tutorials I can find for SData is a really old youtube series on SData Consumers and the SData 2.0 github page. Which is the recommended implementation for using SData? If you could provide an example of the second option and how to get started with it I'd greatly appreciate it.

    Greetings,

For Sage 100, there is a sample project using the Sage 100 Native SData Provider available for download on Sagesell. Sagesell is a partner only website. If you are not a Sage 100 Partner, please ask your partner to download the information for you. The sample project was used to demonstrate SData in Sage 100 at Summit several years ago.

    Thank you,

It seems that most Sage Partners use BOI instead of SData. Is there any reasoning behind this or just preference? To use BOI, I know they recommend you taking classes to learn how to use it but SData seems a little bit more straight forward since it's similar to the REST API.

The choice of BOI vs Sage 100 SData Adapter comes down to functionality.

The Sage 100 SData Adapter has not been updated in several releases and does not conform to the current SData 2.0 specification. This means all of the current SData 2.0 features do not work in Sage 100.

Using BOI requires writing a wrapper or something around the business objects to provide web access but it offers direct use of the Sage 100 business objects to exchange data.

    Thanks,
    Kent

Thank you for the reply. Which Sage products conform currently with the SData 2.0 specifications and is there any timeline for the other products to be updated to fit those specifications?

    Greetings,

I can't answer either of those questions. Please reach out to our Product Management team as they would be more apt to have that information. Maybe our PM will see this post and reply.

    Thanks,
    Kent
