Assuming you're using Purchase Order Inquiry/Entry, that lookup will not show you line level details. You can use Business Insights Explorer and open the Purchase Order View then from there, open the Purchase Order Line Items view, then set a filter on the Qty Backordered column to not equal zero.

If the material is received but the invoice is not yet entered, then the PO will remain as a B (backorder status) if the PO is open due to an actual backorder state then what I do is in my look up I add the following additional fields:

Non Taxable Amt, Received Amt and Invoiced Amt - then I created a new field and created a calculation that shows me the difference from Non Taxable Amt and the InvoicedAmt - this shows me which purchase orders are still pending a receipt of goods.
