Hi, You cannot use an If Then Else statement in BIE on columns. You can utilize the functions available in the ODBC Driver

As an alternative you can utilize Crystal Reports or MS Query and a script to generate the data.

Thank you for the reply. My impression was that BIE was meant to be used by end users because most users don't know Crystal, MS Query or scripting. Folks who use Excel understand If/Then/Else and would be able to use the function with BIE (if it weren't so dumbed down). Extremely disappointing to see 80's technology in today's marketplace.

Sorry, I do understand your concerns.  I did speak directly with the developer of BIE and at one point in time  the functionality your looking was on a backlog.  If you could provide me an idea of the data set your trying to get, I can send you a Crystal Report or MS Query.

Thanks for the offer. I can create the Crystal report, but my goal is to empower users so that they don't have to rely on me for basic reporting needs. Today's users REQUIRE access to innovative and interactive BI tools, and a Crystal report just doesn't cut it anymore. Can you suggest an alternative?

Hi, Have you had an opportunity to go through Sage Intelligence?  There are lots of on-line training materials

available and it's Excel based.

The issue with SI is that it must regenerate the data set entirely instead of just refreshing it. This method does not lend itself well for real time dashboards. BIE ia slow, but at least user can refresh the data set at will.
