MRP and Bill Options

SUGGESTED

When creating a Sales Order for a bill with options, the materials on the options bill are not recognized by MRP. Is this by design or am I missing something?

I realize this is a late reply; however, I just had the same question ask of one of our customers.  The short answer is No.  MRP does not include Bill Options entered in Sales Order...

If the BOM is a Kit, and it explodes the kit onto the sales order, then it will recognize the options.  But if the BOM is a finished good, then it won't.  If the option bills you have are required for the actual manufacturing process, then you're stuck.  But if the option bills are something that gets combined with the main finished good afterward, I would suggest setting up a KIT BOM, and including on that BOM your finished good item and attach your option bills to that kit.

For example we manufacture device DEVICE01.  The options we have for that device are things like European or U.S. AC adaptor.  So we have a finished good bill for DEVICE01-1, and then we have another KIT Bill (DEVICE01) which includes the DEVICE01-1 and an option bill for the AC Adaptor.  We have the Kit bill set to explode so when  DEVICE01 is entered and a U.S. adaptor is selected the DEVICE01-1 and the ACUS is broken out on to separate lines in Sales Order.  Then MRP can pick up these requirements.
