[swprom] errors?

In the course of two days I have had two clients with similar issues getting errors like Line: 2225 Error:86 [SWPROM] in the Sage 100 activity log.   Not the exact same errors, but similar.

The commonality seems to be that it happens to one user or workstation (not sure which at this time).  One is on Sage 100 Advanced  2016.5 the other on Sage 100 Advanced 2014.?.   In both cases Sage 100 seems to be hanging up during processing. Reviewing the windows event viewer I'm seeing a lot of error events referencing SIdebySide 33 which I can't claim to have ever seen before.  Googling I found some references to incompatible versions of various software, but nothing that really seems directly on point.  I really don't know if this is coincidence or not.  One client indicates they had some software updates recently, the other does not.

In the first case  it happens during S/O Invoice printing at the end of the day (to PDF).  I haven't been able to see this one when the problem was actually occurring yet.

In the other case they were doing purchase order daily receipt registers (I think they had it in a few other places too).  In P/O, the users computer looked like it was just hung up with the processing window still on the screen but nothing was happening.  In another instance the processing window just disappeared.  When they tried to restart, it claimed that the batch was in use.  Had them log out and killed any running processes from the task manager and it appeared to be ok.

I can find only limited references to [SWPROM] errors in the knowledgebase or Sage City.

I know that [SWPROM] is part of Sage 100 files that are installed, but I don't have a clue as to what it is. Anyone know?

Any ideas?

    Hi Tom,

SWPROM is the program that processes messages and displays them to the user.  Things like "Do you want to delete this item? Yes/No"  etc.  Have you reported these error 86's to support?  I haven't seen this before either.  Error 86 is a transmission error to the device, usually a workstation in an Advanced type of install.  Is it always the same workstations?

This is early in the discovery phase of this problem so I have not been able to collect much info to narrow things down. So no,  I haven't reported it to tech support yet.

So far it is always the same workstation, but if it repeats this evening, the client is going to try moving to a different workstation with the same user log in to see if it is user or workstation tied.  Yesterday they went to a different workstation, different user and was OK.   This client had what may have been the same issue about a week ago and then repeated yesterday.

It does not always appear to be 86 either.  The commonality is primarily the SWPROM at this point.

Thanks for identifying what SWPROM is.

Update:  The  client on 2016 was also having issues with Sage Exchange.  Someone was troubleshooting Docuware on their computer for six hours yesterday.

Under the assumption that maybe they disturbed something I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Exchange and the Sage 100 workstation.  Oddly enough during the reinstall it claimed it needed to install .net35?  Suspecting the Docuware people may have done that..

Credit card processing is functional again.  Jury is still out on the SPROM errors.  Fingers crossed.
