Upgrade premium100 2014 to 201X - SQL Server 2008 R2 Limitation?

We are currently running Sage 100 2014 premium edition with SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard.

I am looking to upgrade to 2016 or 2017 in the next month or so. I was double checking the 2017 Supported Platform Matrix and noticed that it did not mention SQL Server 2008 R2 as supported (only mentions 2012 & 2014). Does anyone know if 2008 R2 is officially not supported or did the just not list it because it is older? We run SQL Server 2008 Standard for a few other databases and I'm really not wanting to throw in another investment item at the end of this year. (Currently using 4 cores with 2008, so almost $15k investment just for licensing)

Sage 100 2016 does list SQL Server 2008 so I know I could at least upgrade to that, but am trying to get to the latest version if possible.

Looks like end of life is coming or has passed for SQL Server 2008 R2 depending on service packs.

I can only assume that if Sage isn't mentioning it that it is no longer officially supporting it.

That being said, I just went through this with upgrading to Sage CRM 2018 where I was using 2008 Standard R2. Technically it was not supported a few versions back and I didn't notice (oops). It seemed to run OK, but that's a risk call you have to make.
