Cannot copy Version 2019 data to another system?

We do most of our custom development work for clients on our own system.  (Build and test VI jobs, create and modify Crystal Reports develop custom forms, data troubleshooting, etc.)  For the past 20+ years we simply copy the client data folder (MAS_xxx) from their server to our system to do this.  When we copied the data in a test version 2019 system (ver 6.10.2.0 and PR 2.19.4.0) to an install of the same version on our system and try to access payroll we get the following message:

The encryption key is invalid.  See your system administrator.

We cannot access Payroll data at all for this company.  In addition, we get error 200 messages in other modules in this company.

We contacted Sage Support which told us that Sage will no longer allow resellers to transfer customer data to other systems!  This is outrageous as we have been routinely doing so for years.  This makes it almost impossible to support our clients on the new version of the product.  With Sage requiring the upgrade to Payroll in January we are being forced to install a version of the product we cannot support in a reasonable manner.

Please tell me there is a way to transfer Sage 100 data form one system to another and successfully access payroll and all the other data with no errors? Failure to do so is unacceptable for resellers.

  • I can't speak to the error 200 messages, but I can tell you that in order to create a payroll report, you have to add the report in report manager. When you select payroll as the module, the is a new checkbox - "do you want to include a PII worktable with this custom report?". That will give you access to the PII data. Unfortunately, you can't preview the reports in crystal. You also have to careful of your joins. I believe the work table was the last table.

Thanks,  I am familiar with including the PIIWrk file for Crystal reporting purposes.  I am doing that on the client system successfully.  My issue is that I cannot copy data from the client system to a different system (from the client server to my laptop) and work on the data on my laptop.

I noticed a new option in the Admin panel, but have no idea how it works.

  • I'm glad that Sage is making the data more secure but it does make it more difficult to assist customers at times.  I had to do a custom report when I upgraded a client so I took the prior version of the data and converted it on my system.

Does this also mean that support can't take copies of the data for troubleshooting?

Exactly, and what about restoring from a backup when there is a ransomware attack or a server failure?  I helped a client restore from a ransomware attack 2 months ago.  Fortunately it was in version 2017.  All I had to do was reinstall and copy the data folder to the server.

  • You can copy the MAS_SYSTEM folder.  It's a bit of a pain and you will need to use the login that you have setup on your client's system.

Hi , it seems like has the workaround, but I was going to ask if copying the entire MAS90 directory would alleviate the issue.

That's what I usually do when I want to develop in-house and deploy later.

I get the data via remote connection.  The entire MAS90 directory can be huge and would take far too long to transfer over the internet...

So, do you backup the MAS_System folder on your system, then paste in the customer's, Then replace it when you are done?  This can get pretty confusing when doing work for several clients.
