Sage 100 2021 Workstation won't allow swapping to classic view

SOLVED

Hello,

On a new install on a laptop, the Sage 100 2021 workstation will not allow the swap to classic view. Not entirely sure what I am missing, but we don't have this problem with any other computer.

Typically, we would do this by going to the Launch32.exe, but it won't even open.

It also does not appear in user settings:

Additionally, we have tried several different reinstalls. deleting the sage folder in my documents, and tried copying configuration files from another computer where classic mode was applied.

Nothing seems to work, any ideas?

The Classic launcher was retired in v2020.  The only option in v2021 is the CLASSIC theme.  If other users are able to use the old launcher in v2021, check the KB for a fix.

So the fact that our users can use the old launcher is actually a bug? That's fine I think we will leave them using the classic version and just setup the standard version for new employees.

    It is a little confusing...

Classic Desktop is no longer supported in 2020 and later.

However, Classic theme is not the same as Classic desktop (which was choice offered in pre-2020 versions of Sage 100 - see 2018 settings screen below as an example)

The option to choose Classic desktop no longer appears as it did in pre-2020 but you still may get choice between themes (Classic, Standard (Blue), and Standard-Green).

From Sage 100 Help: "Use Theme Maintenance to customize the appearance of Sage 100 windows. You can change the font size, row height for grids, and the color of various window elements."

So if the users are looking for Classic desktop selection which allowed the older Folder type look for Sage 100, this is not available in Sage 100 2020.

    Classic Desktop                                                VS.                           Standard Desktop

NOTE: relating to the Classic Desktop removed in 2020: the choice to use launcher.old.exe vs. launcher.2016.exe is not a choice in Sage 100 2020 and later.

Yeah the vast majority of our users are still using classic desktop on Sage 100 2021 and not having any problem. I assumed that this was an issue with the new install, not actually an issue with the old installs? In any case, that's fine. We are going to let everyone using classic continue to use it and just do new installs with the standard. Kind of a pain but it is what it is.

I recommend moving them all over to the new standard. I tend to leave people on the old menu however when the change became inevitable I started to switch people and the feedback wasn't as terrible ( once you get back past the first 10 minutes ) as I thought it would be.

Here's an interesting nuance, which I hadn't noticed before - which makes me assume it might be related to Sage "fixing the bug" of users still being able to use the Classic Desktop in 2020 or 2021. Just created a 2021 test system for a company and to my surprise (and their disappointment) the 2018 Business Desktops on the workstations that now have 2021 added is now only allowing the Standard Desktop. The switch to Classic is still there in User Settings, but it doesn't switch it to Classic. Anyone else see this?

I had told them to expect the Standard as the only available option in 2021, but I didn't expect it to adversely affect their 2018 Launcher. And yes, I've swapped out that Launcher.old.exe, but it didn't help. I agree with Wayne that moving forward, the best course of action is just to let users know they should use Standard.

There is a way to do it, send me a PM for the answer. Hesitant to post in the wild.

    Thanks BL,

I sent you a PM. I also created a ticket with Sage. Here's what they say (which I haven't yet tried):
"Let me have you do the following:

    1. Browse to user's Documents folder (C:\users\username\Documents)
    2. Rename 'Sage 100' folder
    3. Open Sage 100
    4. Select 'The classic desktop'
    5. Select OK

Let me know if that allows the user to select the Classic View."

Not sure, but I think by renaming/deleting the Sage 100 folder in the C:\users\username\Documents), this removes the legacy files.  When you open v2020 (or later) Sage again, "current" standard files are installed.  Reminds me back when Office 2007 was released and those users lost the Office 2003 desktop look.  I thought the world was ending.   Change is hard.  Do your users a favor by ripping off the bandage.  Delete the Sage 100 folder when installing the newer version and tell them there is nothing you can do about it.  Then show them how to change the desktop font size under VIEW - Application scaling..  They will appreciate that they can finally see the words.
