So I should try to install 3.71 over his 3.60?

On a very recent 3.6 to 2021 or 2022, that's what I had to do. Make a complete backup of that 3.60 first.  I think I actually took a copy of the 3.6 folder to my local computer and did the upgrade first on my laptop to be sure nothing would go south.

I had to install over the 3.6x. to get to 3.71 before I could migrate higher. If you run into issues with any later versions, you can always try backing down to an earlier release, such as going from 3.71 to 4.3 to 2017. 

You'll see some mention of 4.5 PU8 as an interim step. However, I did not find that to be the case, although I didn't have payroll or enhancements. One of the Sage folks can probably refresh our memories on the importance of 4.5 PU8 ( I think it's the last version that did legacy payroll migrations?)

After much digging...I just found my 3.71 cd.  Thank Goodness!  I had planned on going from 3.71 to the 4.5 PU8 because that's what's been drilled into us!  I have a copy of his MAS90 folder on my laptop so I will try it there first.

Oh, and just an FYI, I did do the 4.5 step, but I accidentally had PU7 instead of PU8.  When I tried to convert to the current version a message came up and said I had to install PU8 on the 4.5 install.  Once I did that the upgrade continued.  

Just yesterday I looked at an old binder of the 3.x CDs and was thinking would I ever need them.  

Hang on to them!  I had every CD, except the 371.  I dug and dug and found a "replacement" 3.71 cd that I had never opened.  Thank goodness I didn't throw it away!!

Copy them to either DropBox or Google or Microsoft storage. It’s well worth the time to keep an archive of older versions. 

Also, keep notes on all this. You may think this is the only time you’ll see a 3.x upgrade but suddenly in another year you’ll receive an email from a user on an older version.

Basecamp is pretty cheap (about $11/mo) and you can open as many projects as you like. Keep notes on everything here for the next time you need to perform the same task.
