Sage 100 2014 to Sage 100 2016 and beyond

We are preparing to get "more" current with our Sage 100 platform.

Currently I have a live Sage 100 2014 environment, and a Sage 100 2016 environment. I have ran the 2014 to 2016 migration

several times, and have no problems.

So my natural next step is to get to a newer release beyond 2016, and have a question.

What will Sage 100 2016 migrate to? Can it be Sage 100 2020...or Sage 100 2022?

My plan is to have Sage 100 2016 running on a server, do the migration from Sage 100 2014 (which I have done in practice without issues).

Then take the newly migrated Sage 100 2016 data and move it to the highest level which Sage 100 2016 will migrate.

Thanks in advance for offering your recommendations.

I would highly recommend getting to Sage 2022. Sage 2016 isn't supported anymore. Sage 2019 is going to lose support later this year.

As far as I know you should be able to go from v2014 to v2022 directly.

Why are you going from one unsupported to another unsupported? Why not go to full supported?

To all of you,  I knew I would get unfiltered feedback. Which is why I asked. I'll try going to the latest.

I thought I had to step through some of these upgrades, but will go for it.

Finally some decent weather out here in CA

I believe 4.5 PU8+ can go to a current release version without an interim stop at another version.

If you come from before 4.5 PU8 and try to go to a current release, you'll see a message that you must upgrade to 4.5 PU8 first. However, my experience is that the message means you must be on a version between 4.5 PU8 and 2017 to get to 2018+.

In practice, I've found I can upgrade in these steps:

I've had two or three upgrades where the user was on 3.3 or 3.4.

In those cases, I typically get them to 3.71 before starting to upgrade -- though I'm not confident that is required.

    • 3.71 (my min starting version for really old upgrades though you might be ok using an older release)
    • 2017
    • Current release

The above might change based on your use of

    • Sage 100 SQL/Premium
    • Payroll
    • Work Order

    Thanks Wayne,

I've spent some time installing and uninstalling 2022 and 2020 with regard to upgrading from Sage 100 2014.

I experienced the Edge browser requirement during the pre-requisite phase of the 2022 install.

I've noted in another thread the WO issue, but we've decided to pull our WO module, and do with out it.

As of this morning, I have migrated 2014 to 2020. If everything converts (reports, company data), and our integration

programs and powershell scripts survive, then I'll uninstall 2020, and try 2022 without the WO Module.

I do appreciate the info, and will be commenting on the results.

    Very best,

I have a lot of time invested in these trials....time well spent.

    Here's where I'm at.

I've installed Sage 100 Advanced 2020, and Sage 100 Advanced Update 5, so I'm at Sage System Ver. 6.20.5.0.

The data conversion process is a killer, but there's a lot of data (five companies) to chew up (expect 1-2 hours).

Crystal Reports are converting so far..testing via Print Preview

    Here's my next snag.

Adjusting the size of the ItemMaint screen results in an error. So I've included three pictures.

My hunch is the buttons on the bottom of the 2014 ItemMaint screen which call some vb and powershell scripts

may be fouling things up. But the Sage [Accept] [Cancel] [Delete] buttons are not showing up.

I've tried updating to current panel levels and Panel reset (via right-click) on the panel.

I don't have a lot of these custom scripts which query the other companies in the installation. But they serve

    an important purpose.

Error is identifying a Custom Panel

Any thoughts on why the error dialog is displayed during a panel resize, would be sweet...standing by

Spent some time redesigning the panel, and now I'm functioning. The screen design tools are ancient,

not much improvement in eight years, but will keep an open mind.

My next step will be to uninstall Sage 100 2020, and try an install of 2022.

As of now, I'm feeling optimistic.

Thanks in advance for the support and suggestions. I wouldn't have made it here without it.

The problem was being caused by the [Accept][Cancel] [Delete] buttons, and the two buttons on the far left which I can't name,

were buried under the larger additional (added) panel.

After moving those buttons, the panel is behaving nicely.
